NH Collection Open (2014)
A one-time European Tour and Challenge Tour co-sanctioned event held in April 2014. Marco Crespi captured the title with a score of 278 (−10).

La Reserva de Sotogrande Invitational (2019)
A Ladies European Tour tournament inaugurated in 2019, hosted by Annika Sörenstam. Céline Herbin emerged as the first champion with a score of 282 (−6).

Aramco Team Series (Ladies European Tour)

MENA Tour – Sotogrande Masters (2016)

Real Club de Golf Sotogrande is a cornerstone of Europe’s golf legacy and the first continental European course designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., opening in 1964. Trent Jones considered it among his five favourite of over 500 creations worldwide.

1966 Spanish Open: Just two years after opening, Sotogrande hosted the Spanish Open, won by Roberto de Vicenzo with 279 strokes. Strikingly, just a year later, he became the oldest winner of The Open Championship at age 44.

1970 Sherry Cup (now European Nations Cup – Copa Sotogrande): Introduced in 1970, this annual 72-hole amateur stroke-play tournament draws top young talent from across Europe. Champions include Padraig Harrington, Sergio García, Francesco Molinari, Rory McIlroy, and Shane Lowry.

1973 Ladies’ European Amateur Championship: Hosted at Sotogrande, where the English team claimed victory, ahead of France, Sweden, and Spain.

1983 Spanish Amateur Championship: Claimed by a youthful José María Olazábal, a preview of his later success—including two Masters titles.

1987 Spanish Professional Championship: A defining moment when Seve Ballesteros, then world No. 2, defeated Pepín Rivero in a dramatic final round, famously holing a bunker shot on the 16th to clinch victory.

1996–2001 European Tour Qualifying School: Held here alongside neighboring San Roque Club, the event produced future stars like Ian Poulter, Geoff Ogilvy, Justin Rose, and Nicolas Colsaerts.

Since the late 1980s, Valderrama has consistently ranked as the number one course in continental Europe and has been included in global “Top 100” lists.

It is heralded for its pristine conditioning, strategic layout, and intense challenge that demands precision on every shot—earning it the nickname “the Augusta of Europe”.

Hole 4, «La Cascada», a dramatic par-5 featuring a waterfall and challenging water hazard.
